Resume 101 tip #1…never add “God” as a personal reference on your resume.

It should be a given but according to MSNBC, people actually cite the big man upstairs as one of their references…and that my friend, is one of the many ”no, no’s” when it comes to resume building.

Now it’s little wonder why are unemployment rate is always skyrocketing! It’s not that we have no jobs but rather no one is actually intelligent enough for America’s workforce.

What are some of MSNBC’s other popular yet horrible resume blunders?

sending a 24-page resume

including an email address with the words “lovesbeer”

listing “Master of Time and Universe” under experience

Look, if you’re going to use God as a reference at least make sure you provide the employer with a number (bonus points for an address).

Woody Will Smith, 33, says that he consumed five or six soft drinks and energy drinks a day in addition to his regular consumption of diet pills. He is also blaming the murder on the asinine amount of caffeine pumped into his body because apparently he could not contain himself.

Smith, who was due in court yesterday was defended by a lawyer who strongly believes that the excessive doses left him mentally unstable and he could have not possibly killed his wife knowingly. He could face life in prison for the murder of Amanda Hornsby-Smith which occurred back in May of 2009.

We’ve heard some ludicrous defenses in our days, but could this explanation be so insane that it’s actually true?

Well, the strategy has worked in the past. For example, a man was cleared in 2009 of charges of running down and injuring two people with a car in Washington state…because you guessed it — he had a little too much caffeine pumping through his veins.

Additionally, Dr. Roland Griffiths, a professor of behavioral biology at Johns Hopkins University has noted in an unrelated study that there is a diagnosis for “caffeine intoxication,” which includes nervousness, excitement, insomnia and possibly rambling speech.

Prosecutors, meanwhile, said their own expert may testify that no evidence supports that Smith even consumed diet pills or energy drinks as he claimed before his wife died.

Remember how all the flight attendants, etc stood up for him for like…two days?

Well, it turns out he needs mental help. Or, at least, we think he needs mental help.

When facing up to seven years in prison or a plea bargain that will examine you’re well being and let you off…with, say, health treatment – we’re guessing you’ll roll with being mentally unstable.

Which is exactly what Steven Slater opted for Tuesday in a NYC court room. Slater asked to seek medical evaluation, including but not limited to, issues involving work stress, drugs and alcohol. He’ll reportedly agree to the treatment assuming he receives a lighter sentence come plea bargain time.

Slater, faces seven years in prison for charges including reckless endangerment. He claimed a passenger went off on him and hit him on the head with the overhead bin, however sources at JetBlue tell TMZ there is no evidence this ever happened.

In other, but not surprising news, Slater also “resigned voluntarily” from the airline.

CUE ‘MOVIE TRAILER GUY’: Steven Slater…maverick…renegade…former flight attendant.

True, the two are inseparable. However, sometimes the general public has reason to be upset about taxes, especially when they are as outrageous and bizarre as these ten stipulations.

Card Tax

The card tax demonstrates a trend in which taxes are often initiated after an activity or product becomes so popular that the government is sure to make bank off the tax. Cards for example, were once a very popular and pleasurable activity. James I of England (16th to 17th century), once passed a law requiring an insignia on that card as proof of payment of a tax on local manufacture of cards. This law was held in effect until August 4, 1960.

Candy Tax

In September 2009, the state of Illinois decided to tax candy at a higher rate than other food. Why? Perhaps because candy is very popular and also to combat obesity. However, the only thing is appeared to combat was confusion with a “candy” item only taxable if it “contains flour or requires refrigeration.” Hence, this explanation legally classifies yogurt covered raisins as candy, but yogurt covered pretzels as food; Baby Ruth bars as candy, but Twix bars as food.

Jock Tax

Professional athletes may make a ton of money, but they are targeted to one of the more biased taxes in the United States. The income tax, which is levied against visitors to a city or state who earn money in that jurisdiction, are generally jocks since the state cannot afford to track all individuals. Why jocks? Not only are the working schedules of famous sports players public, so are their salaries.

Cowardice Tax

The cowardice tax (properly known as scutage) was a special tax levied against people who chose not to fight for the King. The tax existed under Henry I (reigned 1100–1135) and was initially relatively cheap, but then King John raised it by 300% and started charging it to all knights in years in which there were no wars. Now that’s not right.

Hat Tax

This tax was handed out by the British Government from 1784 to 1811, and yes, it did target men who wore hats. The government assumed that the majority of hat bearers were rich, and thus it would help even out the playing field in a sense. Heavy fines were given to anyone, milliner or hat wearer, who failed to pay the hat tax. Of course the only way to fight the potential sentence was, to simply not wear a hat.

Window Tax

The window tax was a significant social, cultural and architectural force in the kingdoms of England, Scotland and, then, Great Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries. The tax was introduced under the Act of Making Good the Deficiency of the Clipped Money, in 1696, under King William III, and was designed to impose tax relative to the prosperity of the taxpayer. The richest families in the kingdoms used this tax to set themselves apart from the merely rich, as they would commission a country home or a manor house whose architecture would make the maximum possible use of windows as an exercise in ostentation.

Beard Tax

In 1535, King Henry VIII of England, who ironically also sported a beard, introduced a tax to stereotype those with facial hair. wore a beard himself, introduced a tax on beards. While the tax was a graduated tax, varying with the wearer’s social position in England, Russia also introduced a similar tax because they considered beards uncultured.

Crack Tax

The “crack tax” is short for taxes on illegal drugs in Tennessee. The bizarre tax, under a law passed by the Tennessee General Assembly, in January, 2005, is applied to illegal substances such as cocaine, marijuana and moonshine. Drug dealers are required to pay anonymously at the state revenue office, where they receive a stamp to prove their payment. Thus, if a drug dealer is arrested without having a stamp, the state would seek the money owed.

Fart Tax

The scene – New Zealand, 2003. In order to combat the release of methane by farm animals which accounts for over 50% of the greenhouse gas emissions in the country, New Zealand passes a tax to finally make those pesky farm animals pay. Surprisingly, the tax did not last long and New Zealand’s government eventually gave up their ridiculous idea to tax cow’s farts.

Urine Tax

Money does not stink…or does it? “Pecunia non olet,” was coined as a result of the urine tax levied by the Roman emperors Nero and Vespasian in the 1st century. You see, the lower classes of Roman society urinated into pots which were emptied into cesspools. The liquid was then collected from public latrines, where it served as the valuable raw material for a number of chemical processes. Despite the disgusting tax, the phrase is still used to demonstrate that the value of money is not tainted by its origins.

…And with that we check in to a place called Four Square.

Four Square is the latest social network phenomenon. It allows people to download a special app for their iPhone, Blackberry, ‘Droid and other smartphones that in turn “gives you and your friends a new way of exploring your city.”

I’m already hooked.

Active members of Four Square may earn points, unlock badges and even become the “Mayor” of a location by visiting it more than anyone else. NOTE: Porn sites do not count.

At the heart of Four Square, the creators behind the site have a rather clever idea. It actually invites people to get out of their house and experience new locations. However, is it really necessary to have to share your whereabouts with planet earth?

Sure, it would be cool to become the “Mayor” of some place, just like it would be kind of hip to loose your virginity before you turn 40. Unfortunately, I’m not sure the two can co-exist together.

Thankfully, you have all the time in the world to make love with a square.

True, nothing makes me want to gamble my cash more than a bloodbath, however some residents do not seem to view the situation in the same light.

Are you Getty’in me?

For the second time in five years, Gettysburg is fighting over a plan to build a casino. This time it’s the appropriately titled Mason Dixon Resort & Casino.

Supporters of the casino say the plan will not tread on hallow ground and will bring jobs, more tourists and tax relief to the region, while others counter that it’s just too close to a precious site where 160,000 Union and Confederate soldiers duked it out in a three-day battle during the summer of 1863.

On Tuesday, casino principals, supporters and opponents will speak at a public meeting with state regulators who are considering the license application to build the casino. More than 390 people have registered to speak, meaning the hearing could spill into Wednesday.

We say, if you’re going to debate – why not settle it out in the field.

…Okay, bad expression of speech.

“Why stop at Gettysburg? Maybe we should build some casinos at the site of the World Trade Center,” a resident ranted. “That would create some jobs right? Heck, that would help the tax base, right?”

For some reason we do not think he’s serious.

Yes, we find it highly ironic that the very movie based on Mark Zuckerberg and the other “geniuses” who developed the highly popular site are among its biggest critics.

Reportedly, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has went off record to call many of the scenes in the film “pure fiction” and in a July interview at the Computer History Museum, Zuckerberg added, “Honestly, I wish that when people try to do journalism or write stuff about Facebook, that they at least try to get it right.”

It turns out that while the site’s privacy (among other issues) has been under question of late, it’s Zuckerberg’s own identity that he would like to keep most private. When asked why he didn’t allow himself to be interviewed for the book that the film was based on (The Accidental Billionaires), Zuckerberg continued, “The reason why we didn’t participate is because it was very clear that it was fiction from the beginning.”

“I mean, he (author Ben Mezrich) basically told us, ‘you know, what I’m most interested is in telling the most interesting story, right?’ And we want to make sure that we’re never – that we never participate in something like that so then someone can take something that’s really fictional and say, and ‘we talked to Mark Zuckerberg for this.’”

Chris Hughes - a Facebook co-founder - agrees, “It’s crazy because all of a sudden Mark becomes this person who created Facebook to get girls or to gain power. That’s not what was going on. It was a little more boring and quotidian than that.”

Really!? Hollywood stretching the truth in a “biopic”?

We would have never thunk’d it.

The Social Network opens nationwide October 1st.

Beijing is currently in a roadside nightmare as the gigantic metropolis endures a 62 mile traffic jam that has lasted nine days.

Yahoo News reports that the Beijing-Tibet expressway slowed to a crawl on August 14th, due to a spike in traffic by cargo-bearing heavy trucks heading to the capital. The delays were further compounded by road maintenance that began five days later.

While the jam has been nothing short of stressful for its drivers, local merchants have seized the opportunity on American capitalism by offering stranded drivers water and food at inflated prices.

China has embarked in recent years on a huge expansion of its national road system, however the soaring traffic periodically overwhelms this central network which leads to the city’s produce, coal and other goods.

According to a local news source, the congestion could last until mid-September.

Meth. Heroin. Porn. Sex.

a euphoric drug or substance bound to make you addicted for more.

…video games.

You might as well go ahead and add your XBOX 360 to the list of addictive substances, because a federal judge in Hawaii just basically put video games into the same category as hard drugs.

You see, just when lawsuits could not get anymore asinine, a resident from one of the most beautiful states in the nation is suing a computer-game manufacturer for negligence – allegations that claim the victim plaintiff grew addicted to an online game and that it consumed his life for years.

Craig Smallwood, the man clearly hooked to “the sticks”, claims he played the game Lineage II for over 20,000 hours during a six-year period from 2004 to 2009.

Note: For the math incompetent, it works out to a staggering 64 hours per week on average - and that’s assuming he played only 20,000 hours, not more, and that he played every single week of those six years.

Little wonder, then, that Smallwood claims the game left him “unable to function independently.” Among the other “emotional damages,” Smallwood adds that he suffered serious emotional distress, required intense therapy and would have never bought the game had he known it was so addictive.

Yeah, I only meant to do crack once too.

Lineage II is what the manufacture refers to as a “massive multiplayer online roleplaying game.” Thousands of players may use the same game-scape at the same time, thus interacting with one another.

The result is a gaming experience where no two sit-ins are the same and clearly something that you could easily spend 20,000 hours doing. In fact, its so good, I traded all my friends for an additional BONUS 5 hours and 10 secretly unhidden cheats.

Video games, because it’s a legit addiction too.
