Paula Abdul Quits American Idol
Be careful what you wish for. You wanted her gone now she is.
Paula Abdul has quit “American Idol.”
Apparently, the 47-year old washed up singer-dancer-choreographer has so many other career options at her disposal that she doesn’t need to bother being on the world’s number one television show.
“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return” [to American Idol], Abdul said in a posting on her Twitter account (by the way she didn’t quit FOX forced her out).
Abdul spent eight seasons as the ditzy, emotional and inebriated judge wedged between Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. She will be replaced by songwriter Kara DioGuardi, who already has a year of judging Idol hopefuls under her belt.
Most fans, if they were forced to pick one judge to vamoose probably would have picked Abdul. After all, she was the judge that consistently gave incomprehensible critiques while looking like she’s just downed a cocktail of low-grade pharmaceuticals and Mike’s Hard Lemonade.
However, Abdul’s antics gave fans something to talk about. She was a delicious train wreck—a succulent goofball to be savored and enjoyed like a $2 bottle of wine.
Abdul’s departure is going to leave a gaping void in the FOX show that will never be filled. In the upcoming season the only thing fans will have to discuss is the singing. What fun is that?
She lowered the show’s respect level and reminded people that at its core, Idol was nothing more than a crappy reality show. Now the Idol, with three judges that actually know something about music/music business, will ask that it be taken seriously. Again, what fun is that?
You might be glad to see Abdul’s insipid clapping and gloppy pep talks exeunt, but a couple episodes into the season you’re going to be jonesing for your Abdul fix.
Bottom line, the show won’t be nearly as fun without Abdul and her craziness.
