Steven Tyler of Aerosmith Falls Off Stage, Taken to Hospital
Aerosmith’s front man Steven Tyler fell off the stage while performing in South Dakota early Thursday morning. He suffered head, neck and shoulder injuries. The accident could have been much worse but his lips broke his fall.
“He was good natured about it,” said Mike Sanborn, spokesman for the venue that hosted the outdoor concert. “He was in good spirits when he got in the helicopter. He was talking and joking with the physician.”
The iconic lead singer was flown to a South Dakota hospital. Which is baffling, there’s actually a hospital in South Dakota?
This mythological hospital is called Rapid City Regional Hospital. The hospital’s spokesperson actually told reporters they could not confirm Tyler was there. It’s the only hospital within a parsec of Rapid City, where else would he be?
“It was an unfortunate end to an extraordinary evening,” Sanborn said.
You might think a rock star taking a tumble is no big deal. Just have him take two groupies and call us in the morning. “Dream On!” Tyler is 61-years old. A fall like that could cause the hip singer to need a new hip.
Tyler went down while dancing near the sound system. The battery in his hearing aid must have quit and he needed to get close to the speakers to hear the music.
“He does a lot of dancing on the stage and he does a lot of stuff with his mike stand. He put his stand down and twirled around and stepped backwards off the stage,” Sanborn said.
The good news, his fall occurred during “Love In an Elevator” so at least those in the crowd were spared having to listen to the rest of that song.
Spectators were told the show would not go on at 12.15 a.m.
Fans, on hand for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, were disappointed that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers had to quit but there was “Sweet Emotion” that Tyler was okay.
Lance Yellow Robe, who was mere feet away from the stage when Tyler went down, told a local area newspaper, “you could kind of see it coming because he was dancing all over the stage. I hope he’s OK. I could care less about the concert being canceled.”
That’s so Yellow Robe.
