“Checking In” with the latest Social Network Hit

While social networking sites offer their fair share of benefits, we can only hope to imagine that if you were to explain to someone 50 years ago that you would need to go online to have friends and “Like” something, that very same person would probably conclude you checked out of the mentally asylum a little too early. 

…And with that we check in to a place called Four Square.

Four Square is the latest social network phenomenon. It allows people to download a special app for their iPhone, Blackberry, ‘Droid and other smartphones that in turn “gives you and your friends a new way of exploring your city.”

I’m already hooked.

Active members of Four Square may earn points, unlock badges and even become the “Mayor” of a location by visiting it more than anyone else. NOTE: Porn sites do not count.

At the heart of Four Square, the creators behind the site have a rather clever idea. It actually invites people to get out of their house and experience new locations. However, is it really necessary to have to share your whereabouts with planet earth?

Sure, it would be cool to become the “Mayor” of some place, just like it would be kind of hip to loose your virginity before you turn 40. Unfortunately, I’m not sure the two can co-exist together.

Thankfully, you have all the time in the world to make love with a square.
