Job Losses
A month or so ago I thought I was immune to worrying about losing my job. This feeling of superiority and disdain for the peasants who had lost their job admittedly led to some pretty comical hate-filled chats over a case of Coors Light on the back of uncle “Red’s” Chevy pickup truck. Oh how pathetic those job losers were, scronging over a half eaten Big Mac that I had tossed into the waste basket outside of my 75-story corporate headquarters building.
This morning, however, I was reading some financial magazine and I just realized that this shit is getting serious. I mean, its ok when a bunch of union laborers lose their jobs, but now corporate execs are being told to not take their huge severance checks on the way out of what was a miserable failure of a three month tenure at your local publically traded company. This is getting absurd! If America turns into a place where legacy and nice suits are not enough to land a man an 8 figured severance check when the company he was running goes belly than I am leaving for good.
I mean, seriously folks, has it really gotten that bad? Well, although I am starting to get a bit concerned I am not worried about myself….after all, I am an exec at GM and we all know that GM is THE American company and will be here long after you and I are gone. Though I am not worried about losing my high paying cush job, I may start to actually pay attention at the next board meeting to make sure that our sales are still looking strong….just as a quick gut check.
Enjoy unemployment peasants.
