Rodney King: Revenge at Last!
Rodney King, the famous “victim” behind the police brutality case in the 90′s recently made the ultimate cliche a reality – “revenge’s a b***h.”
King became a sensational icon on March 3, 1991 when he was pulled over by police and was attacked by several police officers. The evidence appeared overwhelming as much of the beating was videotaped from a nearby distance.
While some could easily argue that the force was in excess, four LAPD officers were later tried and acquitted. The announcement of the acquittals sparked the 1992 Los Angeles Riots.
What many do not know about the incident was the fact that King was driving over the legal limit and refused to pull over his vehicle (even after the chase reached over 100 mph’s) because King later admitted the DUI would violate his parole for a previous robbery conviction.
On Friday however, King was presented one more chance to strike back at the police. King and former Pennsylvania police officer Simon Aouad squared off in the ring as part of “Celebrity Boxing 11.”
Aoud was removed from the Philadelphia police department reportedly due to conduct. He was tossed out of the force for apparently following a “shoot first, ask questions later” policy with regard to an intruder on his property.
King won the match and $5,000 but lost what remaining dignity he had left.
