Olympics Things to Look Forward to in 2010If you’re the type of person who looks at his or her glass as half-full, than you have plenty of reason to feel optimistic for 2010. Here’s a list of things we found that should make ’10 a worthwhile year.

World Cup

For anyone who does not live inside the United States, soccer is king of the world. Which means that the World Cup is the biggest sporting event – at least as far as the rest of the world is concerned. It is during this time that nations from around the world gather, celebrate, and drink lots of alcoholic beverages. The 2010 Fifa World Cup begins on June 11 when host nation South Africa plays Mexico in the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg. The United States will open the next day against England.

New Harry Potter Film

The nerds will gather in large crowds once again for the final, wait, check that second to last Harry Potter movie. Hollywood has once again found a way to ride the cash cow by dividing the final novel in two different films. The first half of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is scheduled to appear in cinemas on November 19, almost 18 months since the release of the last Potter picture. Once again a giant cast has been assembled all but guarantying plenty of hype prior to release.

The Winter Olympics

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games begin on February 12th in Vancouver, which should provide an amazing backdrop to the always entertaining winter version of the summer games. Vancouver is a gorgeous city and will host over 80 nations expected to take part in 86 winter sport events.

End of the Recession?

Don’t count on it.

Or should we?

We’ve already languished in the longest recesssion since modern records began (to be precise, six consecutive quarters, or one and a half years, of economic decline), which means America is due for a break. All the statistics and trends imply there must be a return to growth in 2010, unless Britain is to pass from a recession into its own version of the Great Depression. It probably will happen, but it’s hard to say precisely when, or whether the respite will be the beginning of a long-term revival or merely an interval before a second slump.

Getting Drunk

If all else fails in 2010, you can always get drunk.
