West Wing Star Escapes Prison…Well, not Literally
Joshua Malina, one of the stars from the television show West Wing, escaped a close call with prison last week.
DUI? Robbery? Assault and Battery? Pulling a (Andy) Dick?
No, Malina just went ballistic when a flier in the mail informed the actor that the local community in Malibu was considering housing an old firehouse with convicts.
Oh, no….not here please! God forbid we set up a minimal security prison in Malibu.
Last week the County Fire Chief in Los Angeles sent out a mailer notifying local home owners about the community proposal. According to reports, Malina was one of the more outspoken individuals in the Malibu area. Malina strongly disagreed with the proposal that would transform an old firehouse into a makeshift prison of about 80 to a 100 inmates.
However, once Malina complained to the powers that be, L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky sent him a letter on Tuesday saying the plan to house inmates in the neighborhood “defies common sense” and had been completely removed from even consideration.
The great news was immediately wired across the country.
“Here, Here…Malibu is not the proper place for a prison.”
I mean we can house prisons in “dirty” places like New York, Detroit, and Las Vegas – but NOT in Malibu! Who do these people think they are? The citizens of Malibu clearly have the right to agree and disagree with what is built in their local community. Actors understand the welfare of a community much better than you and I.
Thank God for people like Joshua Malina and their five hundred-thousand square foot homes, multiple swimming pools, and twelve-foot high steel gates. Finally, someone with a sense of community values!

Whoever wrote this is an idiot. I live in the area where they were going to put this inmate camp. It would have housed convicted felons that would help with brush fire clearance. There are such camps in Malibu, but none of them is in a residential neighborhood. Why should there be prisoners in a family neighborhood? By the way, this neighborhood is not even in Malibu. It’s unincorporated LA County. And Malina does not live in a mansion (or have a pool). This is not a multi-million dollar area. Malina and Yaroslavsky are heroes in these parts for preventing what would have been a monumentally stupid idea.
