Hit the Hole and Run

Marshawn Lynch Hit the Hole and RunMarshawn Lynch, once considered one of the NFL’s youngest stars, is stuck in a hole he always wanted to quickly slip from. It’s an NFL running back’s job after all, to find the whole and hit it hard…just NOT that hard.

Lynch was not on the field, but rather on a road one late night in 2008 when a woman was struck by Lynch’s Porsche. The woman, named Kimberely Shpeley, alleged that the incident was a drunken hit-and-run, however Lynch was investigated for the incident and ultimately reached a deal with prosecutors that lead to a guilty plea to something called “failure to exercise due care toward a pedestrian.” Lynch walked away with a whopping $100 fine and no jail time.

However, the sentence has not kept the victim from remaining silent. Shpeley still believes “beyond a doubt” that Lynch was drunk and is now suing for an unspecified amount of cash.

Unfortunately, with the recent incident in Washington D.C., no one would put it past a professional athlete to drive drunk. After all, it’s not the first time and tragically it will not be the last.

What’s even more tragic, however, is the light penalties these athletes have to face if they are indeed guilty. Yet that fails in comparison to what we as a society deem taboo for athletes.

A player cheats on his wife or beats dogs. That’s not cool. A player who gets behind the wheel and slams 90 mph. into an innocent person. Not so bad.

From Donte Stallworth to Marshawn Lynch, you hit the whole and run.
