Is the Media Overreacting to Tiger Woods?
You may call the guy a poor husband and father, but is the media acting like a “poor sport” in regards to Tiger Woods and his adulterous behavior?
The media is in love with people who have a lot of fame and money, which means any time you make a mistake, the media is going to run you to the ground. Some may say this is the small price people pay for being famous, but my question in response is, ‘When did the media become our moral observers?’
Take a look at one of the “hit” shows on ABC; Desperate Housewives, from a completely passive observation, appears to support adultery or at least view it in a comical light. But now our favorite “clean” golfer is involved in numerous affairs and we like to point the finger and laugh because it makes our hypocritical nature feel better.
‘Well, if I had that kind of money, I would never cheat on my wife.’
You’re moral idealism may have a good point, but what do you know about being the world’s greatest golfer, a multi-millionaire, who has to shag off every slut, whore, and “gold digger”?
I am in no way, shape, or form defending Woods and his poor choices, but I am saying it’s time to give the guy a break.
Just like it was “Michael Jackson 24/7,” now we’re getting “Tiger Woods 24/7.” I don’t care to hear what Woods prefers “spit or swallow” or whether or not Chris Matthews believes he’ll come back for the Masters.
LEAVE THE GUY ALONE!
Sure he’s a liar and a cheat, but do I really care if he missed his good friend’s wedding, as reported Sunday on TMZ.com. The fact of the matter is that professional athletes cheat on their wives. Woods will not be the first nor the last to uncover this revelation. We may hate Woods now, but we continue to support “cheaters” with ticket sales, merchandise, and television ratings.
When will the media finally decide not to dread on their own self-loathing, as the personal bias is absolutely killing any credibility they still hold.
(muttering to myself) At least he didn’t murder dogs like Michael Vick.
